CS 299 The Computer in the Cinema

Course Description: As computers become ubiquitous aspects of everyday life, they have become increasingly popular subjects for filmmakers. This class will trace the evolution of computers as they have been represented in movies over the past four decades. Our focus will be on understanding the societal perceptions of computing as reflected by movies such as "the Desk Set" (1957), "2001, a Space Odyssey" (1968), "The Forbin Project" (1969), "TRON" (1982), "WarGames" (1983), "Hackers" (1995) and others.
